Cricket Streaming of International Highlights
If you’ve missed the live match, then cricket streaming of edited highlights is readily available. These generally cover the latest international games and are often at a reduced cost or even free, as the fierce bidding war for live cricket rights doesn't often extend to the recorded highlights.
Planning your viewing
Streamed highlights are available on the BBC web site soon after the close of play. UK viewers can watch these free, simply by using the BBC Sport media player. You can find similar arrangements world wide, though many transmissions are region specific – for example Cricket Australia TV, ESPN Star or Supersport.
However, if you want to plan ahead to view the highlights throughout a season, its possible to buy into a cricket streaming highlights package. This works the same way as a cricket pass or cricket ticket for live streaming, but for a much lower cost.
For example, the ECB TV annual package of test and ODI highlights is available for under £25. However, this highlights package is not available in North America and the Caribbean, as rights reside with ECB's broadcast partner Echostar.
Cricket Australia TV (CATV) provides streamed cricket highlights through Channel 9. There’s a great archive of cricket highlights and registration is free, but before you consider parting with your personal details, make sure you can display the video in your region. If you’re a Sky TV customer with Sports Pack, you already get access to Sky Sports cricket highlights for free via the Sky web site. Anyone else can subscribe to this highlights package for less than £5 per month through SkyPlayer. Willow TV is the specialist market leader in live cricket streaming, however one of their innovative features is the concept of interactive highlights for some of their broadcasts. This is on both live and highlights transmissions and works like this; when you open the interactive scorecard and click on an event like “c Tendulkar b Khan”, it opens the highlights video window and shows that event. Or, you can click to show all the fours, scoring shots for a batsman, wickets for a bowler and so on. Although Willow TV is a subscription service, the interactive highlights are great value for money. Computing power
Cricket streaming also has specific hardware and software requirements. Dial-up simply isn't an option, and you’ll need broadband with download speeds of 500 kbps at the very least. Your broadband connection can be either a DSL or High-Speed Cable Internet connection. Other requirements include Internet Explorer 5.0 or above, Windows Media Player 7.1 or above, Windows 98 or later and a minimum of Pentium III, 128 Mb RAM, a 24 bit true colour card and 16 bit sound card. Willow TV also provide a test clip so you can check if your system can receive video streaming. If you decide that cricket streaming is right for you, then you can take your display options further than your PC. With the right video and audio cabling and a scan converter, you can even connect your computer to your TV screen. However, beware of the wireless options, as they are vulnerable to interference from your microwave oven! Want more information on live cricket?
