Brian Lara Cricket 2007 is the latest version, and is available for PC, for Xbox, for PS2 and for PSP. Its designers at Codemasters have taken on board feedback from hardcore cricket gamers to improve on earlier versions. It was also released as Ricky Ponting International Cricket 2007 in Australia, and Yuvraj Singh International Cricket 2007 in India.

Brian Lara Cricket 2007 is groundbreaking as the PC and console versions of it are also playable online. No other currently available cricket video game offers this feature. If you want to get really competitive against global competition in this top rated game, this is the way to go!

EA Cricket is available on PC, on Xbox and on PS2. Its innovative feature is the “Century Stick” system, with one analogue stick to control batting shots and power, and the other for foot movement. This is heralded as a step forward from the traditional “button controls”.

International Cricket Captain is only available for PC, but it does have an edge over the rest of the available desktop games, simply because it’s a cricket management game. ICC lets you build your team over a number of seasons, and you’re even allocated a budget, depending on last year’s success. As well as salaries, you can spend money on coaching, youth training, and physiotherapy. However, don’t expect great graphics, or much control over individual players.

The latest top desktop games can cost up to £40, while the less popular titles or older versions are available for under £20.

I've had most fun from Brian Lara Cricket, EA Cricket and ICC, though other desktop games are available.
