BBC Sport and Social Networking

Want to contribute to one of the top 100 most popular websites in the world? BBC Sport makes this possible with a selection of social networking tools that lets you share your photos, news and opinions with other like minded sports fans.

Journalists use Flickr and Twitter as alternative ways to upload photos and report the latest news about global sport. This includes reporting of all the sports covered by the BBC.

We can all have a share of this. Cricket fans are particularly well catered for by the Test Match Special photo group on Flickr, and the bbctms page on Twitter. You also can join in with the analysis and opinions of the TMS experts on their Blog page.

Flickr is a photo sharing website where you can store your photos, tag them and share them with others either through a link to the site or by embedding them in your blog or web page. You don’t need to sign up to Flickr to view the BBC Sport pictures on their Flickr site, but if you want to upload your own photos to their sports groups, you’ll need to register first. This is a quick and easy job on the Yahoo website.

The BBC Sport Flickr home page shows photos taken by their reporters, producers and even top athletes. From time to time, they create groups for major sporting events and they also welcome submissions from you and me. So, this is our chance to get involved and have our best sport related pictures shown on the BBC Sport website. To see some great cricket pictures, visit Test Match Special's cricket photos on Flickr.

Twitter Twitter is a free messaging service that lets you publish comments the size of a text message (tweets), telling the world all about where you are and what you’re doing. This is also great way for journalists to post a short update when they don’t have enough information for a full report or blog post.

Its easy to register with Twitter. Just visit their website and sign up for an account. Then, just fill out a form to send a new message or set up your mobile and send updates from that, which is useful if you’re not online.

BBC Sport reporters use Twitter as an alternative messaging service to post short updates about the latest competitions. They famously used this technology at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2007 Rugby World Cup. So, if you want to follow your favourite reporter's updates, you can add them to your list of Twitter feeds so that you receive every message they publish.

Test Match Special has its own account at bbctms on the Twitter web site, so after you've signed up, you can share your own tweets with other TMS fans.

Want to join in with the analysis and opinion from BBC Radio’s Test Match Special Team? The TMS Blog is moderated 24 hours a day, seven days a week so you can submit your own blog entry or comment on others at any time. This Blog uses Flickr and Twitter to bring it to life, and you can sign up here to share your thoughts with the TMS experts, like Adam Mountford, Alison Mitchell and Oliver Brett.
